Columbus Museum of Art

The Columbus Museum of Art sits on East Broad Street in the heart of downtown and is one of the most accessible and genuinely enjoyable art museums in the Midwest. The permanent collection spans American and European modern and contemporary work, with a particular strength in works by Columbus-connected artists. The Wonder room — a hands-on creativity space — is one of the more unusual features you’ll find in a fine art institution, and it works well for curious adults as well as families. General admission is reasonable, and the museum regularly runs late-night openings and special exhibitions that give repeat visitors a reason to come back. The attached restaurant, Merge, is a solid lunch or dinner option if you want to stay on-site. It’s about a 10-minute drive from most Rooms2Stay properties in Columbus, and there’s paid parking directly adjacent. If you’re in the city for more than a couple of days and want a few hours away from your laptop, this is one of the better ways to spend them. Plan for two to three hours minimum to do it properly.
