COSI — the Center of Science and Industry — sits on the west bank of the Scioto River directly across from downtown Columbus and is one of the city’s genuine standout attractions. It’s often described as a children’s museum, but that undersells it. The exhibits cover space, ocean science, energy, and human biology at a level that holds adult attention well, and the planetarium shows are genuinely impressive in a darkened dome setting.
The building itself is worth noting — a sweeping curved structure that looks particularly good from the river walk, especially at dusk. The surrounding area along the Scioto Mile is one of the more pleasant walking routes in the city, so it’s worth combining a COSI visit with a walk along the riverfront.
Tickets should be booked online in advance, particularly at weekends and during school holidays when it gets busy. Weekday mornings are the quietest window. If you’re in Columbus for a longer stay, a COSI membership works out well for the price and gets you into partner science museums across the country. Budget a half day minimum.
